What I Like and don’t like in this Technology Country

After 8 months here at France… I have some conclusion about my life here…From my perspective point of view…as a stranger (Malaysian people) in this technology country.

What I like:

  1. Both of my supervisors are very friendly. Although they are Professor and Assoc. Prof… they help me a lot. I hope, I can manage to complete my PhD here. There is no communication problem with us, all of the time we speak English.
  2. People that surrounding me here are very helpful. They always help me in my life here.
  3. Very easy to get Halal food. A lot of Halal food can be bought at supermarket. Besides that a lot of Kebab stall here which is Halal.
  4. Easily to cross the road. Car driver respect pedestrian very well…it’s not the same in my home country.
  5. Very easy to pray(as a Muslim). I feel comfortable to pray behind my desk at the laboratory, even though there are seven French people here. Nobody ever disturb me, they respect my religion. Besides that, I can easily have a Friday prayer near the university. There are also two main mosques at Rennes.
  6. Opportunity to learn French Language. I have installed some words in my memory.
  7. There are 2 times a year, the shops are open for SALE. It is usually in July and January every year. Actually, my wife like it very much:-p.
  8. There is a support from CAF every month for the house that I rent.
What I don’t:

  1. I hate myself for not yet able to speak French even though I have been here for eight month. Maybe I need more practice. I only able to speak ‘Broken French’ and understand some words. Hopefully, after this I can speak fluently.
  2. Be careful when you walk! Please look on the floor and road, because you might be stepping on ‘shits’ of the dogs. If not, you need to do ‘samak’.
  3. Be careful with the beggar. Sometimes they could disturb your life. Maybe you should drop some cents.

These are base on my experienced, just to share with you guys out there.

Coming to France from Malaysia

While staying at home today..cause my laboratory is on blackout, suddenly it across in my mind that I want to write about my journey in France….journey to the technology country..Its almost a dream come true for me to study abroad… since I missed my first opportunity while I’m 18 years old…huh finally, I’m going abroad…not doing my first degree…but my PhD!… I’m not alone, but accompany with my wife..May Allah give bless for both of us…journey to this technology world..with nawaitu for Allah.

I came to France started November 2006. I came here with zero French...which mean: I did not know how to speak French at all!...My advice here, for those who want to come here..at least learn some word, if not you will have a lot of difficulties. Here, in this blog I give some guides on coming to France from Malaysia… in my point of view as Malaysian people.

Coming to France by Aeroplane:
If you take MAS ( Malaysian Airlines System) aeroplane, you will be dropped at Terminal 1. Go get your luggage and straight forward to get the navette (free train connection between terminal 1,2 and 3) If you have flight connection to other region, for example to Rennes. You should take the train (navette) and go to terminal 2 to take Air France flight. If you want to go to Paris, you can take the ‘navette’ and stop at Terminal 3 or 2, and by a ticket before take a RER Train to Paris. The journey by RER is about 45 minutes. At the city, you can get metro train to go to your destination.

Some advices:

Becareful with pickpockets. One of my friend just lost his wallet last year here. They always looking at you.Becareful while crossing the road, a lot of car did not stop for you in Paris. At Rennes its much more easier.Learn some little French word. Its much more easier to use English in Paris, but not in Rennes. I have difficulties to buy things here before and still have to learn a lot. Say ‘Bonjour’= Good day, ‘pardon’ or ‘excusez moi’ = to make excuse and ‘desole’ = to get forgiveness… This is the basic word of politeness. Here, there is a lot of people beggar for your money.. Maybe in some place you should drop some cents and some place is not.

Bon Voyages….

My Digital Camera - Canon IXUS 75 (Part 3)

The Canon IXUS 75 is also known as the Canon PowerShot
SD 750 in the US. This is a stylish looking pocket
sized digital camera. One of the attractions of this
camera is the fact it has a larger than standard three
inch LCD screen. Larger LCD screen really
does make a difference when composing and reviewing
photos, so this gives the IXUS 75 an extra tick in the
box. It also makes the camera's menu system that bit
easier to read.

Wow..so nice isn’t it?..I’m lucky to have bought this
camera..hehe…Its really valued for money. I’m glad to
grab this one. The picture is very nice. I have used
it in my vacation at Paris last week. I’ll post in
this blog some picture that I took while I was there.
Here, I also put a video from youtube.com. Enjoy it.

My Digital Camera - Canon IXUS 75 (Part 2)

This is continuation about the previous story on this camera. Actually, this camera was presented to my wife as our first anniversary. Today is a modern day, so…most of woman wanted the ‘electronics’ hardware’ rather than jewelery and gold (Hehe.. I just guess on it). As long as she is happy, I’m happy too.

The digicam that I bought, actually have pros and contras। You can evaluate it by yourself before buying it.

Pros: -High resolution,

-large 3" LCD

-Attractive design

-High quality video recording

-You can take beutiful close-up photos using "digital macro" shooting ability.

-High quality portrait photos

-good qulity indoor images

-Tanks to the red-eye correction function, u can correct red eyes in recorded images.

-amazing shooting options in manual and SCN mode.

-By setting the shutter speed to "long shutter mode", you can take stunning high quality photos without noise in dark places.

Contras:

-It doesnt have charge indicator

-It doesnt have view finder.

-The "Auto iso shift ability adds too many noises to the photo.

Others info on IXUS 75:

The image processor has been upgraded to DiG!C III, which includes Face Detection AF/AE/FE and Noise Reduction Technology and red-eye correction is offered with image playback.

This time i will write on my new digital camera which is CANON IXUS 75. After a dissapointed time of using my previous digital camera( I cant take a picture on sunny day and dark place), I decided to buy a new digital camera.

At first place, i decided to go back to Malaysia and buy this digital camera at my home country...then, because of unpassioned, I just bought this camera at France which is cost about €299..it is quite expensive, i though i can get it more cheaper in my country.Overall, i really satisfied with the performance. It is quite a user friendly, very small, easy to handle, and the picture quality is very satisfied.
